About Online Learning and Blackboard

What is Blackboard?
Blackboard is the learning management system that CSUMB uses to build and manage virtual classrooms. When you register at CSUMB you are automatically given a Blackboard account. Unless otherwise noted in the registration instructions, you should login to your Blackboard account no later than three working days prior to class. If you have any problem logging in, please see the Blackboard Login Help page.

Your Blackboard Home Page
The first page you will come to in Blackboard is your Blackboard home page. It will list all of the courses you are taking.*  Select the course of interest from the Courses: Quick View list on the right-hand side of your screen to obtain the course syllabus, assignments, and other important information. You've now made it to your course Web site! Be sure to click on each of the navigation buttons located on the left-hand side of your screen and take note of the resources that are available to you. Pay special attention to the Course Information page and the Assignments page to ensure that you do not miss any requirements. Please be aware that many courses will require the student to attend some face-to-face meetings.

*Some courses may not have a Blackboard component .

Problems?
If you locate the Blackboard site for a course but cannot find sufficient information about the course on this site, please contact the instructor using the information found under Faculty Information in Blackboard or the Course Schedules page. (See Reading the Schedule for tips on locating information on the Schedule page)

Some courses may not have a Blackboard component. If you do not locate a course in Blackboard, contact the course instructor or the office of the institute or department that offers the course for the correct Web address. This information can be found on the Course Schedules page. (See Reading the Schedule for tips on locating information on the Schedule page)

If you have any problem logging in or have questions about Blackboard, consult the Blackboard FAQs. If that does not answer your need, call 582-4648 or email blackboard@csumb.edu.
